The Ledger received eight awards and Bay News 9 received two in the 2008 Sunshine State Awards.

Visión Latina, produced by The Ledger, won first place for Spanish-language publication.
Lakeland Magazine received first place for a special interest publication.
Laurie Lawrence won first place for the design of a business front page.
Lawrence and John Pitts received first place for a feature page design.
Ernst Peters won second place for breaking news photography.
Cary McMullen won third place for religion reporting.
LedgerTimeout.com won third place for a news Web site.
Laurie Davison and Jonathan Haas of Bay News 9 won second place in deadline news reporting. Davison and Haas also won a second place for a sports feature.
The results of the competition, sponsored by the South Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, were announced Saturday in Dania Beach. The Ledger competed in the category for newspapers with less than 100,000 circulation.
