Wildfire Spurs Evacuations in Lake County

Residents in Lake County were told to evacuate Wednesday ahead of a fast-moving brush fire that has burned more than 1,000 acres. No injuries have been reported.

Roughly 140 homes in the Deerhaven area north of Orlando were not threatened, but residents were told to evacuate because the fire could cut off the main through road and leave them trapped, said Lake County Emergency Operations Center spokesman Chris Patton.

Wind gusts of about 25 mph were causing the blaze to spread fast, making it difficult for firefighters.

A smaller brush fire was burning in Volusia County. No homes were threatened in that fire.
