A judge has sentenced a 21-year-old man to life in prison for last year's slaying of a Tampa Marine who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The sentencing came after a jury found Jonathan Sanabria guilty Wednesday of fatally shooting 25-year-old Marine Corporal Miguel Angel Suarez last July.

Prosecutors say Sanabria was trying to rob the Marine of his gold chain when he shot him in the head during a struggle.

Suarez enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2002 and served 16 months in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was killed while spending time at his parents' home awaiting orders to return to Iraq.
