Prosecutors say two bailiffs were justified in fatally shooting a man who fired at them moments after entering the county courthouse in St. Petersburg last week.

"It was totally a reaction to his actions," said Pinellas County sheriff's deputy B.J. Lyons, one of the bailiffs who killed 30-year-old Glen Lee Powell on May 7.

Lyons and Deputy Marvin Glover said Thursday that Powell didn't speak before firing two shots from a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun at the visitor screening area. The bailiffs returned fire, hitting him six times.
