A Winter Haven man was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegally dumping used tires, said a report from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
According to the report, Harold Eugene Scott, 49, had been paid by businesses to collect the used tires and take them to a landfill. The report said he had dumped them on the side of the road off Third Street to avoid paying the landfill fee.
Scott was charged with unlawful commercial dumping of more than 500 pounds, a third-degree felony.
