Gators Use Long Ball to Beat USF, 12-2

GAINESVILLE | Clayton Pisani and Jonathan Pigott both hit two-run home runs as Florida beat South Florida 12-2, Tuesday night.

Pisani went 2-for-4 for Florida (31-20), while Avery Barnes went 3-for-5 and Josh Adams went 2-for-3.

Joey Angelberger hit a solo homer for South Florida (26-25) in the sixth inning, and Chris Rey hit an RBI single in the eighth.

Kyle Mullaney (2-4) pitched three innings for Florida, giving up one runs and four hits.

Losing pitcher Teddy Kaufman (3-3) allowed two runs and five hits in three innings.

Miami 5, North Florida 2

CORAL GABLES | Yonder Alonso hit a two-run home run as Miami beat North Florida 5-2 on Tuesday night.

Alonso went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs. His two-run homer came after Jemile Weeks doubled down the left field line in the fifth, and was followed by RBI singles from Blake Tekotte and Mark Sobolewski in the seventh inning. Alonso also scored on a wild pitch in seventh inning.

Dave DiNatale tripled in the seventh for Miami (42-6) and starter David Gutierrez (3-0) struck out five in his six innings on the mound.

Gutierrez allowed one run and three hits.

North Florida (27-25) picked up one run in the fourth off Travis Martin's RBI sacrifice fly to left and added another in the ninth when Sam Perry drove in Martin.

Losing pitcher Jonathan Turner (0-5) gave up two runs and five hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out two.

Georgia 3, Georgia Tech 2

ATLANTA | Nick Montgomery pitched five strong innings in his first career start and Georgia beat Georgia Tech 3-2 to salvage one win in the three-game season series between the state rivals.

Georgia Tech beat Georgia on each school's campus, but the Bulldogs, No. 7 in the Baseball America poll, improved to 5-1 against the No. 25 Yellow Jackets in games played at Turner Field.

Georgia (34-17) beat the Yellow Jackets after clinching the Southeastern Conference championship by winning a weekend series at Vanderbilt. Georgia Tech (36-16) lost for the first time in 12 games this season against teams from the state of Georgia.

Montgomery (2-1), a senior, gave up only two hits and one run in five innings, the longest outing of his career.
