J. Foy and Aline Johnson celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Friday in Lakeland with friends and family. They were married May 9, 1943, in Jackson, Ala., and moved to Lakeland in 1950.

Their children are Jimmy, T.L., Elizabeth, Joel, Michael, Howard, Johnny and Sam. They have 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Foy Johnson pastored Lakeland First Assembly of God (later became Carpenter's Home Church) from 1952-1966. He was then elected district superintendent for the Peninsular Florida District Council of the Assemblies of God and served in that capacity for 24 years before retiring in May 1990. Aline Johnson served as district director of the Women's Ministries division during that time. Foy Johnson also served as the general presbyter for the Southeastern United States for the Assemblies of God churches and served on the board of directors for Southeastern University. The couple were instrumental in the formation and operation of the HUG Home for Unwed Mothers that is now Lakeland Teen Challenge Girls Home. The Johnsons still minister in churches and gatherings.
