Fox Racks Up Another Top-10 On Open Trails

Kyle Fox of Lakeland turned in another good showing on the Bassmaster Open trails, finishing fourth in the Central Open event on the Red River in Louisiana on Saturday.

Fox, 20, now has three top-10s in five Opens over the past two seasons.

He produced 48 pounds, 13 ounces over three days on the Red River, about 6 pounds behind the wire-to-wire winner, Billy McCaghren Jr. of Arkansas.

Fox now heads for the Southern Open on Santee Cooper Lakes in South Carolina May 8-10.

In local bass tournaments:

Randy Cranor and Darrell Cranor won the Winter Haven Lunker Lovers open evening tournament on the south Winter Haven chain April 21 with 21.30 pounds. Jimmy Todd and Tim Denmark were second with 12.80 pounds, while Joe Taylor and Bill Guerard took third with 11.80 pounds. Todd and Denmark tied for big bass at 6.04 pounds with Bob Lane and Mike Childers.

Don DeMott and Jeremy Smith combined for a two-day weight of 38.45 pounds to win the 15th annual Stratos Boat Owners Tournament Saturday and Sunday on the Kissimmee Chain. They got started with a 9-pounder on Saturday. Todd Evans and Joe Magnatta took second with 34.70 pounds. Bryan Mason and Tommy Nosworthy had 31.95 pounds for third, including a 9 1/2-pounder on Sunday.

Jason Kitchens and J.A. Kitchens won the Outcasts club tournament on Lake Kissimmee Saturday with 13.44 pounds, with Jason's 6-pounder tops. Danny Mead and Felix Vasquez weighed in 12.45 pounds for second, and third went to Jerry Reynolds and Mike Arrington at 10.37 pounds.

Bud and Ryne Podlas finished first in the Castaways tournament on Lake Arbuckle Saturday with 11.22 pounds, including the biggest bass at 5 pounds. Gary Ellenberger and Bob Gills were second (9.56) while Butch and Jimmy Craddock took third (9.27). Kenny Cook and Chuck Riley had 8.51 pounds for fourth.

Sam Standridge and John Griffin took top honors in the Ron's Tackle Box evening tournament on Lake Ariana last Thursday with 10 pounds. Joel and Ray Moran placed second with 9 pounds, 11 ounces. Don Pruitt and Joe Scarborough had 9 pounds, 2 ounces for third. Adam Tyler produced the top fish at 4 pounds, 2 ounces.

Jason Brewer and Steve Coleman took first place in the Lake Wales Po' Boys tournament on Lake Clinch with 11.43 pounds. Joey Smith and Heath Boykin took second with the biggest bass of 5.49 pounds. Mike Knapek and Randy Giger were third.

Joe Moore and Roger Brown won the Mosaic club tournament on Lake Pierce Saturday with 17.84 pounds on eight bass. Moore's 5.35-pounder was best for the day. T.O. Mills and Steven Mills had 7.90 pounds for second. James Beavers and Bill Wails were third with 6.59 pounds.

Scott Campbell and Greg Bruneau weighed in 16.13 pounds for top honors in the Xtreme Toho Division tournament April 20. Jerry Driskill and Steve Brown were second (15.23) while Jeremy Smith and Dan Smith took third (14.94). Buck Hill and Bill Trevino netted the biggest bass at 6.32 pounds.

Jeff Edgerly dominated the HT3 Wave Worms Executive Tour event on the Kissimmee Chain Saturday and Sunday with a two-day limit of six bass totaling 19.30 pounds. Edgerly also netted the biggest bass at 6.89 pounds. Vic Burgess finished a distant second with 14.94 pounds, while Tommy Frederick was third (14.79) and Troy Olivier fourth (13.29).

Tom South weighed in 12.25 pounds for first place in the Winter Haven Lunker Lovers tournament on the Kissimmee Chain April 6. He also netted the biggest bass at 6.22 pounds. Scott Daley placed second with 8.66 pounds. Lamar Middleton was third with 7.35 pounds.
