Shocking. I'm clear across the Country and had to register to make comment. I'm sorry your community is having to deal with this tragedy. My community has dealt with rape and murder of a young woman.
I'll watch your progress indealing with this. I feel for the parents. But the idea that MySpace or YouTube is responsible for these actions is shocking to me as well. There are amazingly wonderful sharings on these sights.
These sites did not create this beating. Look into the souls of the perpetrators and look hard. Maybe we can all learn something from this. But I don't expect to learn it was the anti-Christ "YouTube" that caused it.

I also don't blame You Tube. I myself use it to watch many videos of favorite groups & find some really humourous and insigttful, informative & educational videos that you could never find without it. It is all about the user of the service & what kind of material they search for. Yes, we should monitor our children; but you can't take away the public's right to freedom of choice because of a few "bad apples".

I live in Lakeland, Florida. It is a tragedy and a shame that any young person (or any human being) would take part in this type of violence. Unfortunately, the parents are right in one respect, a lot of contributing factors cause our children and adults to be 'desensitized' to violence and death. Consider the movies, TV,music (Goth, Punk, Emo & Rap) that glorifies sexual deviancy, sexual violence, degradation of women, violence and extreme language/actions. The blame should be placed (and traced back to) multiple sources. If our court system had not taken the ability for parents to properly 'discipline' children prior to becoming a teenagers (and even as teenagers), obviously without being 'abusive' and allowed all other authority to perform their duty to keep the proper rule without fear of reprisal from parents, neighbors, police, Child services or others. This along with parents that would take the 'rough road' and really be parents in not allowing their children to have unbridled access to the internet and definitely not 'Myspace.com', 'Youtube.com', or any other similar site or programs. If parents will be wiling to take the 'wrath' of their children / teenagers, they could possibly save their lives, happiness and futures.

I can't believe the parents of the victim are making excuses for those sub-human criminals. Myspace and You Tube are used by millions of great people and teens. These inhuman "girls" would have done this no matter what for any kind of "trash talk". What I see on the video is kidnapping, assault, torture, false imprisonment and perhaps premeditated murder and too many more to mention. Please don't make excuses and even call them "girls". The video is horrifying to watch and she must have been absolutely terrified and in fear of her life. I hope they make an example of all of them so this doesn't happen again. A long prison sentence for all of them, jail time for the parents of the criminals that raised such subhumans and sue them for everything they've got. They deserve it. Forgive them in another lifetime.

If these parents fill the internet is the devil and myspace/youtube is so bad then why in the world would they allow it in their house.I have 2 daughters now adults and many adult family members and we all share pics and holiday comments on myspace. We have them private so no danger there. I'm just so tired of these parents allowing it in their homes then when something bad happens oh oh it's the sites or the internets fault. My girls were only allowed on computer in our presence and we seen what went on in there, we never had any bad outcomes. To this day we share many family things on myspace as we are all over florida and this is our way of communicating all the time when we're apart. Come on parents take responsibility for your children and put them blame where it's due. My prayers are with this girl and her family, and our courts can deal with these criminals as they are.

they say in the article that on the video the girls are demanding her to fight back. i can see thris girl spoke her mind about these other girls on myspace but when the fight is six on one who comes out as the weaker people. it was not a fair fight and that shows weakness on those six girls. if i were that girl i wouldnt fight back unless i knew i could win i would just pray they wouldnt kill me. its amazing the girl is still alive

Why does everything always have to be someone elses fault??? We are to blame for our own actions as a human being. NOONE makes you do anything, you make that choice.
As for myspace, I have one as an adult, so does my own mother and father, and many other family members and friends, we share pics, messages and videos..It is safe if you make it safe.
As for parents, yes we should check on our children, in Polk County they have a program free called computer cop, you can get from local sheriffs office. But even as parents check up on kids, teens are sneaky, some do things when we are not looking, or do things at other peoples houses..
These girls all need a serious spankin from their hopefully decent parents..
I feel bad for this young woman, she may have trash talked people, but no words can hurt as much as what they did to her, not only was she hurt, now she is in the publics eyes and media, and will more than likely suffer from humiliation for a while. Her parents will prob have to move and change schools.
This is a sad, sad world we live in....
PRAY people...

I totally agree with Bryan, I could'nt have said it better my self. If any of the 6 were mine, there would be hell to pay. Words are just that, this was taking it too far. Shame on the girls and their oarents for taking up for them.
